P3O training helps to run an effective delivery support office
Published in the fall of 2008, the Portfolio, Program and Project Offices (P3O) is the latest best practice guidance from the UK’s Office of Government Commerce. Although it was only recently published, the focus of P3O is different than traditional models, providing a single source of information to run an effective delivery support office.
Whereas business analysis training focuses on metrics, and change management training focuses on either individual or departmental change, P3O training focuses on providing a decision enabling/delivery support structure. This structure supports all change within an organization. This support is often provided through a single office, but could be provided through linked offices. The purpose of this office or offices is to enable and support the business objectives, as well as the consistency of delivery. This includes supporting specific programs and projects.
This focus on the structure in P3O training breaks away from the all-encompassing change that is taught in traditional change management training, and the detailed focus taught in business analysis training. That P3O training focuses on developing systems to support the change, rather than just find the areas needing change, and creating this change, makes it more likely to be found successful.
